There have not been any extensive dendrochronological studies on the oak of Vasa. The knowledge we have comes from historical source material, such as cash books and purchase documents.
Based on the historical documentation, we know that the planking and other plank material largely came from Poland, as well as from what was then Livonia in the Baltic States, for advantageous economic reasons, while naturally bent wood for parts such as frames and knees was taken from Swedish forests, mainly along the Småland coast and in the Mälardalen valley.
However, dendrochronological analysis has been carried out on wood from lag rods from Vasa's barrels. The work also included a few samples from the ship.
