The ship Vasa is owned by the Swedish state, through the Swedish National Maritime, Transport and Military Museums (SMMTF), which is responsible for caring for, preserving and making the ship available to the public.
SMMTF is an authority that reports to the Ministry of Culture.
Vasa Museum part of SMMTF as are following museums:
- The Air Force Museum, Linköping
- The Army Museum, Stockholm
- The Maritime Museum, Stockholm
- Vrak – Museum of Wrecks, Stockholm
- The Naval Museum, Karlskrona
- The Railway Museum, Gävle.
